Here’s an activity you can use to become more self-aware and with practice, you will become emotionally mature. The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy exercise will help you become emotionally intelligent.

If you know that you could choose your emotions. Would you ever want to feel bad? If you are driven by your emotions and are short-tempered, you look like a fool to others. Sure somethings always make you feel a certain way. But if you don’t try something new, you are stuck. Move on, progress.

Not many people know that they can be emotionally free. They act according to how they feel. Those times when you become scared and get into the freeze, flight, or fight mode, can be handled better. You would want to release this fear and think about what you can do in a calm rational manner. This makes you look emotionally mature.

So apparently the majority of us just let emotions happen. Usually, we just do what we are used to. We keep doing it over and over.. re-acting rather than choosing how to be. We have free will to become a better version of ourselves. And it’s through free will and responsibility that we find true power.

Alexithymia a huge disadvantage

Alexithymia is a personal trait characterized by the subclinical inability to identify and describe emotions experienced by one’s self or others. The core characteristics of alexithymia are marked dysfunction in emotional awareness, social attachment, and interpersonal relating.

Not everybody can name the emotion they are going through. People who didn’t have any help learning about your emotions when you were young… Often end up… as someone with difficulty in experiencing, expressing, and describing emotional responses.

How to take charge of your emotions

Using the system above, see if you can change your emotions toward anything which makes you feel bad. Just change one of the circles. 

  • behavior or even just your posture (don’t be fighting)
  • and your thoughts and what you are saying about the thing which got you emotional.

Or next time you are angry, switch your emotion to grateful instead. This opens up a world of possibilities as to what you can do for yourself and the world. Try this question:

How to help others and contribute to world peace:

Help give people options about how to think about situations that bother them. Changing the way they think about it, will make them feel different toward it and behave in a differently as well.
